Paonia, Co!

As many of you may know, last week Scott came to visit me in Colorado for the week. We spent six wonderful days driving around the western part of Colorado. At the end of the week we had drove over 1,000 miles! So throughout the next week or so I'm going to be sharing photos and stories from our week of traveling and going on adventures together!

The first town we visited was Paonia, CO, and since it was Scott's first day here (and it was the 4th of July as well) we just hung out, walked around, took silly photos, kissed, and enjoyed being around one another. Paonia really is the prettiest town, so we had a nice time wandering down its tree-lined streets that afternoon.

We might have even fit a few outfit photos in while we were out on our stroll!

I was kind of obsessed with this alleyway, even though I was being eaten alive by ants.

Can you tell through these photos & my expressions how full my heart was? I certainly can! Being reunited with your love is honestly THE best feeling, and I was so happy to finally be together again.

Paonia has some of the most beautiful historic homes I have ever seen. It was so hard not to take a photo next to each and every one. Scott and I might have been a little camera happy as well this day (we didn't mind one bit though).

This little blue house below was one of our favorites in the whole town!

Our walk lead us into the town's tiny downtown area. The only thing open was the ice cream/soda shop, so we stopped in to drink Izze sodas and talk about our upcoming adventures.

After our short stop we took another little stroll, hand in hand, admiring all of the pretty old houses and talking about how thrilled we were to be together.

To say that I was happy this day would be a major understatement. I was ecstatic to be with Scott, and my whole world felt right again.

Have you and your significant other ever been separated for a long period of time? If so, how did you handle being apart?

  1. Oh these pictures/words just make me so happy. I'm glad you guys had so much fun together :) Reunions after a long time apart are always the best feeling. I love all the house pictures and you, as always, look beautiful!

As I've told you before, my husband and I were apart for four years during his Army enlistment...he left for Basic in April and we didn't see each other again until July, then I went to college in WI and he was stationed in Alaska. We'd see each other every 2-3 months for a week or two, then when he deployed we didn't see each other for 8 months, then 6.

It was a rough period in my life, for sure, but the distance only served to make us even stronger than we had been before. I never questioned that I should stay with him, even through the phone miscommunications. And honestly, as tough as it was, I wouldn't have changed it for the world because it's part of who we are as a couple. And it makes for an even better story :)

I dealt with it mostly by staying busy, by communicating with girls who were in similar positions, by writing tons and tons and tons of real snail-mail letters, making paper chains with one link for each day until I saw him again, and when he was in Iraq working on fun, time-consuming projects. Once I bought a plastic canister at Walmart and filled it with 365 little slips of paper, each with a private joke, quote, or expression of love, so he'd have one slip of paper for each day of the year he was deployed.

This ended up being far too long and nostalgic...sorry for that :) I wish you guys all the best and I love reading about your full heart! :) <33

  2. What a gorgeous little town and I love seeing how happy you are!!! Your smile is so full of love for Scott, it's beautiful! I also LOVE your outfit!!! But that's not new. ;)

Jen and I haven't been separated for more than a few hours since the night I moved in in 2007. I don't think either of us could handle it!!!

  3. As if I weren't homesick for Colorado enough. I hope you post more of your adventure!

    Excellent pictures!

  4. Aww, you guys are such a sweet couple! I'm so glad you got to spend some time together- it looks like such a fun little town :) I hope very soon you'll be together permanently!

  5. So cute. You definitely are beaming. :D

Well, I'm in a long-distance relationship, so we are always separated for long periods of time. We deal with it by talking often, texting, and Skyping.

  6. i love these photos, and you look so HAPPY! my boyfriend and i have never been apart for more than a couple days...i don't think i could handle a long distance relationship!

  7. You two look so happy together! And are a very cute couple, just sayin' :)
My boyfriend and I did a long distance relationship all of last year, but we would see each other at least once a month, so it wasn't awful. The weekends we had together were amazing, but I hated saying goodbye every time! Luckily, he moved to the same city as I this year--knowing he's close by is so comforting.

  8. you really do look so happy, i love it! looking forward to seeing your various adventures.

  9. Aww congrats on being reunited! My boyfriend and I have been together for about six years now. we met in college and always had to be separated during breaks, etc. But, the longest was when I studied abroad in Spain and he in Australia, which lasted 6 months. It was a tough time actually but it also really reinforced our love for each other and made it much stronger. We were so ecstatic when we could both be back in the U.S. together. I was so nervous the day he came back. I was waiting for him all dressed up. He brought me a bouquet of flowers =) And we were only 21 years old. Seems like forever ago. But alas, now we are separated again, only for a week this time. You really do feel like a part of you is missing. Something is incomplete. I get to see him again on Friday, though!
