5 Things

Lately I've spotted a few ladies around the blogosphere blogging their "5 Things," so today I thought I would hop on the bandwagon and post my own.

1. Scott and I met at the coffee shop he worked at in September of 2006. I came to watch his band play so I could write about the show for my super cool e-zine (oh, we all had one of those, right?). We barely talked that night, and when I was leaving and saying goodbye he was too busy texting with a pair of monster hands on to look up and say goodbye back. I still tease him about it to this day! Love you, hun!

2. I absolutely love airports! I totally thrive on that craziness that happens when trying to find your flight or making a connection. I love knowing that almost everyone there is going somewhere, and often find myself partaking in some major people watching while I sip my iced coffee (a flying essential, of course).

3. I owe my coffee addiction to two people, my cousin, Amanda, and Scott. When Amanda and I were teenagers she was obsessed with Starbucks (being from Washington state), and I couldn't help to want to indulge in the daily caramel macchiatos she was drinking when we were on vacation together. When Scott and I met a few years later he was working at a coffee shop and would make me the tastiest coffee drinks (raspberry hazelnut lattes were my favorite). Eventually Scott and I both dropped the sugary drinks and have been black coffee drinkers ever since.

4. Makeup has always been a passion of mine, but over the years my obsession with it has come and gone (staying consistent for over the past year, however). In high school I was all about big and bold eyeshadow (loved my golden oranges, greens and blues, and shimmer was a must). Today I still really love bold eyeshadow and all things shimmery, but I'm also a total blush and lipstick kind of gal and truly enjoy having fun with my makeup looks.

5. I'm a native Arizonian with Colorado and Washington tendencies. While Colorado has been my home for every summer since I can remember, Washington has also always held a special place in my heart and left me with a constant feeling of being homesick. That may sound strange, but my heart has always felt like it resided in more than one state. I guess that's what I get for having two parents that grew up in separate states and raised their baby girl in the sunshine of the Grand Canyon state.

Ok, that's it! I've seen a few people tag other bloggers to follow along in the fun, so I'm going to do the same (however, I would love to see all of you partake in this 5 things tag and leave a comment below with your five things, or five things blog post). I'm tagging Chelsea of Zipped, Kara of Sunshine Cupcakes, Maria of Little Tree Vintage, Marlyn of Little Red Bowtalk, and Elise of Enjoy it!

Happy weekend!

Brights & Lights

Today the sun is shining and spring really feels like it's in the air. The past few days have left Phoenix in an overcast, breezy kind of state, but this morning the sun was shining ever so brightly through my windows and there isn't a cloud in the sky. I'm pretty sure this mean that today calls for a little spring shopping date (because my brights and lights pieces of my wardrobe need an update), and maybe a trip to Sprinkles Cupcakes for that brown sugar praline cupcake I spotted on their Instagram! YUM!

Knowing that it's about time to set aside my more fall/winter appropriate lipstick colors in exchange for some more spring/summer shades, I've been really into finding the perfect coral, pink, and orangey lip colors that will best suit my skin tone and my ever dry lips. I've been getting a lot of wear out of my Radiant Cosmetics' moisturizing lipstick in Reef lately, and really love the color payoff and how nice it leaves my lips feeling. I also haven't left home without a Revlon lip butter in my bag recently (loving the color Juicy Papaya currently), and a little NYX blush on my cheeks. What can I say, I've really turned into a true makeup gal over this past year!

I feel like I can't leave this blog post without saying how much I adore these Coco sandals from Blowfish Shoes. I'm totally a "gladiator" sandal type of gal, and these little gems also speak to my obsession with quality and comfy sandals (best of both words!). Blowfish Shoes is also having a 15% off everything sale through 3/31 with the code EASTER! Can't beat that!

Sweater: Jcrew
Top: Jcpenney

Ok, I'm off to finish a little school work and then out to enjoy the rest of this glorious spring day! What are you up to today, sweet friends? What lipstick or blush are you currently loving for the spring season?

Stripe Out

Hello, sweet friends! Now that my comps exams are finally over I'm working toward getting back into a more regular, every day groove. For weeks I spent a crazy amount of time researching, outlining, writing, and studying, over, and over again (and can I just saw boy that job is a time sucker), but now that my test are over and I'm finished with those notes and faux papers that I wrote for the weeks leading up to the exam, all of those prized paper materials are just sitting in my car, right where they belong (ok, maybe I should at least move them out of and into a school folder? meh, maybe later!). Besides those golden notes that are now sitting in my car and not in my hands all day, every day, I have found myself with some spare time and a hankering to just wander around beauty counters and get coffee with friends (which is something amazing to do after weeks of having to say, "Oh, I wish I could but I have to study!") Anyways, since Monday I've definitely spent some time wandering around Ulta and Sephora (and I think MAC is next up on my list of places to go), and also got coffee with my trusty Phoenix Style Collective crew (you're ready for the 2013 Arizona Blogger Conference, right? It's coming! More details soon, but mark your calendars! It's sure not an evening to be missed).

Getting back into the groove of every day life also means that it's now time to settle back into my usual outfit photo taking routine (and man have I missed it!). I truly am SO ready to style up some cute, spring outfits and bring a little sunshine to this little blog of mine. Oh spring, I really hope you're a good one! Ok, I've got a busy day ahead of me and I'm off to make the best of it (and maybe pick a new lipstick or two to brighten things up, HA)!

What are you most excited for this spring? Will you be joining The Phoenix Style Collective for the 2013 Arizona Blogger Conference on April 27th in downtown Phoenix? I sure hope so!

Exhale

EXHALE - That is exactly what I did once I walked out of that classroom today after finishing up my LAST comprehensive exam (3/3 that I have to pass to graduate). The stress and pressure from these three, graduate determining exams has been SO overwhelming lately, so to know that I am completely finished with them (well, as long as I have no re-writes, cross your fingers!) is SO relieving! Woohoo!

Tonight I'm off to spend some much needed catch-up time with sweet friends, and hopefully sip on a delicious coffee and sweet treat from a new local spot downtown! Here's to a great evening, and thank you SO, SO much to everyone who has wished me well during this exams process! I couldn't have done it without your encouragement, friends!

What are you up to tonight?

Week 12 Wrap-Up

1. My bestie Courtney looking fabulous in a Grow-Op vintage cape! // 2. Starbucks drink all around. Loving the new hazelnut macchiato (and I'm NOT a sweet coffee kind of gal). // 3. The regular cup of joe with my love. // 4. Rebecca Green's amazing original work on display at the Grow-Op!

3 Weekly Favorites:
1. Seeing SO many of my sweet friends at the Honey Harvest party at the Grow-Op. I'm truly one lucky lady to have such kind, thoughtful friends!
2. Completing 2/3 Comps exams! SO close to being done with those awful things!
3. Puppy cuddles, and taking mini instax photos of the pups. SO, so cute!

2  Hopes for the New Week:
1. That I kick butt on Exam #3! I've got this!

Welcome Diner

I have a confession to make...I'm OBSESSED with the idea of diners! I know, I know, diners may not be seem like the coolest place to grab a bite, but for a gal who grew up in a city almost completely vacant of cool, old diners, they seem like the neatest little gems. Now, I'm not really into greasy foods or burgers, but when the opportunity presents itself to hang out in a old diner, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm gonna be right there (and usually hoping there is a late-night breakfast menu I can pick something off off AND have a hot coffee, of course). Ok, so why all this diner talk? Well, the Welcome Diner just opened back up in Phoenix and a few weeks back Scott and I took a trip down to the tiny, 1940's diner for a dinner date.

History goes that this 9-stool Valentine Diner was built in 1945 in Witchita, Kansas, and later moved to Williams, Arizona in 1955 where it operated on Route 66 for 25 years. In 1980 the sweet red and white diner was moved to downtown Phoenix and remained closed until the early 2000's. Earlier this year the Welcome Diner welcomed it's first customers in years, and now serves up delicious southern grub (fried chicken + the most amazing biscuits ever) during the evening, and brunch on the weekends. For now they are only open a few days a week (Thursday through Sunday), but I have a feeling that one day soon they'll be able to expand their hours. The whole city seems just smitten with this darling diner!

Hello sweatshirt: Hello Apparel
Heart necklace: Tiffany's
Bracelets: Kate Spade

Today I'm continuing to prepare for my exams (which are tomorrow and Monday), and will hopefully get a ton of study time in! This week has been so stressful with the anticipation, and I'm more than looking forward to getting these exams done and out of the way. Oh geez. Today is also surely a double and triple iced coffee kind of day, and maybe even a little treat (beauty treat?) if I can make my way out from my studying cave. Haha.

Do you have passion for diners too? What are you up to today>

Sleeveless & Ready

Spring, is that you? YES! I think it finally is! Happy 1st day of spring! It's safe to say that I'm truly happy this season is finally here, and coming from someone who usually holds no fondness toward spring and summer (even though I'm a spring baby!) that seems like a huge step toward a season that holds so much potential. This winter was the hardest winter of my whole life, so I'm very much looking forward to the newness, freshness, and hope that spring is said to have in store for all of us. Today I'm celebrating by wearing sleeveless tops (because it's already in the 90's around here), sipping a very large iced coffee, and filling my heart and soul with so much love for the new season.

Can I just say one thing - my hair is a bit out of control here, but I kind of dig it! Ok, I might have something else to say as well - I'm wearing my new favorite customized necklace from the Black & Bronze Etsy shop! My blog pal Carly (whom I've know for seriously years now!) opened up her darling jewelry shop and is selling the raddest, handmade pieces! My Black & Bronze piece is custom, but she took inspiration from the two pieces I was most drawn to in her shop - the Burmese Coin Pendant and the Rectangle Charm with Buffalo Nickel Coin Pendant! In all honesty, Carly is one talented lady and her shop, Black & Bronze, definitely deserves your support!

Crazy Cat Lady

Happy Monday, sweet friends! Today is a BIG day around here, in more ways than one. Once I'm finished up here I will be editing one of my comps exams for the umpteenth time (the only one I was able to do at home) and then sending it off into the universe and just hoping I get word back on how I did soon (fingers crossed!). I also have something really exciting going on this afternoon. I'm a wee bit nervous, and don't want to share too much just yet, but positive thoughts would be very much appreciated!

A few weeks back the sweet gals over at the lovely shop Kintage sent me this darling crazy cat lady top, but with the hustle and bustle of life (and the few hard weeks we've had) I just got around to wearing it this past weekend. However, once I slipped it on it didn't take me long to fall in love with this peachy, flowy, dreamy cat lady top. It's the perfect cut (for me - flowy and three quarter length at the sleeves) and the peach tone seems to complement my skin tone well. Maybe we should say that peach is the new black? Well, at least for spring that is!

The sweet cat detailing just kills me! I posted a picture of me wearing this top over the weekend on my Instagram and Twitter and got so many comments about this top seemed essentially for any cat lady's wardrobe! If you ask, I'd say I totally agree! On a side note - I got a manicure with my mom on Thursday (You Don't Know Jacques by OPI) and stocked up on nail polishes on Friday. At this point, I'm almost embarrassed to show you my nail polish collection, but I just love those little paints that make my fingers look oh so pretty!

Week 11 Wrap-Up

1. Spending a little extra time on my daily make-up. // 2. In Essie Heaven. // 3. Getting a manicure with my mom was such a highlight of my week - I got OPI's You Don't Know Jacques // 4. My most recent beauty purchase - Too Faced's tinted Beauty Balm.

3 Weekly Favorites:
1. The Strokes channel on Pandora - always a fav!
2. Knowing that SOON my exams will be over and I can breathe a little easier (just got to make it through this following week and the next Monday).
3. Piper acting like a cat and laying on the top ledge of the couch - too cute!

2  Hopes for the New Week:
1. That I get exam #1 sent off without a hiccup on Monday!
2. That exam #2 goes SUPER well on Friday!

1 Last Thought:
I'm going to need extra sleep, extra coffee, and extra positive thoughts sent my way this week, sweet friends!

Seattle Wears

As of now, the plan is to be in Seattle toward the middle of next month. Just the thought of being in Seattle is making me feel all kinds of wanderlust, and wishing I could be there right this second.

Madewell sweater, Madewell oxfords,  Madewell satchel, Gap leggings, Madewell umbrella, OPI's You Don't Know Jacques

Until I can hop on that jet plane and land in the Pacific Northwest, I'll just have to continue to daydream of my perfect outfit for running around in the Seattle drizzle. Comfy jeans, a cozy sweater, rain appropriate oxfords, the perfect traveling bag, an umbrella for that non-stop drizzle I can't wait for, and a lovely polish to wrap everything up together. Seattle, I'm coming for you (soon).

Have you ever visited Seattle for? If so, what are some of your favorite places/coffee shops around there?

Brighten Up

Let's face it, I'm a neutrals girl at heart. I love my white t-shirts, dark skinny jeans, staple leather bags, and cardigans in every neutral color imaginable. However, when spring rolls around I usually catch the brightness bug that seems to be going around and end up with a hot fever for bold colors. Well, this years appears to be no different and right now I'm eyeing some colorful tops and beauty products to bring into my spring clothing and makeup wardrobe. First thing I checked off my list recently - this coral/orangey balm stain from Revlon in Rendezvous (which I'm totally smitten with)!

Today it hit 90 degrees in Phoenix and I'm sure that I won't be reaching for this exact outfit again anytime soon (well, maybe, I do love my layering). Scott and I are in the midst of spring break and having been spending many mornings/afternoons/evenings at coffee shops, people watching and working on school work (I - comps exams preparation, He - a paper & some test preparation). Even though we've been bogged down by work, we have been sneaking away for a few shopping trips (me) and an evening out (him with his brothers). I've already made a few spring beauty purchases, but I'm in need of a few new spring staples. The problem is though, I haven't quite found many things that I'm liking currently in the stores. Have you found any good spring staples lately?

Emerging Spring

This post is way overdue (and these photos are from early February), but I figured this would be a good stepping stone to getting back into the swing of blogging again. To be quite honest, I haven't taken outfit photos in weeks (and for good reasons), but I'm really starting to miss it. When you've done something once, twice, three times a week for multiple years it gets engrained in your brain as an every day routine, and once you start to go without it, well, you start to feel not like yourself anymore. Even thought I may not get back to outfit photos this week (I'm knee deep in studying for my comps exams - oh grad life), but I will be excited to do so when the time is right.

This darling cream lace top from Emerging Thoughts has gotten so much wear lately. I love how it instantly adds a little bit of uniqueness to an otherwise plain, staple white top. As of now it's out of stock on the Emerging Thoughts website, but right now they are having a super sweet spring fever sale (15% off store wide with the code springfever).

Outfit details:
Lace top: c/o Emerging Thoughts
White top: Madewell
Scarf: c/o Le Mode Accessories
June bangles: c/o Stowe Street
Jeans: Levi's
Gabby booties: c/o Blowfish Shoes

What's on your spring wish list? I haven't been clothes shopping in months and think it's (almost) finally time to pick up a few warm weather purchases. I know I'm in desperate need of some new sleeveless tops, a few pairs of jeans (I'm so not a shorts kind of girl), and a new pair of sandals.  I did just pick up some new polishes from new Essie Spring 2013 collection, and I've got my eye on a few bright lipsticks and blushes for the warmer months. Oh, spring, I'm ready for you!
